How-To Photoshop: Magnetic Lasso Tool

This post will show you how to use the magnetic lasso tool. It can be great to outline and select certain objects on your canvas and crop them individually.

Step 1:
Open Photoshop and have something you want to trace to crop. The navigate to the left side of the screen and select the magnetic lasso tool.

Step 2:
Now use the mouse as click a starting point you want to trace, and from through slowly move your mouse around the object. As you can see it will create little anchor points around the figure you’re outlining. This works great if there is a contrast between the object and its background such as in the image I’m using.

Step 3:
Continue tracing until you have reached back to the starting anchor point. This will make the object you have outlined to become selected. From here you can copy, cut, fill with colour etc.

So that’s how to use the Magnetic Lasso Tool in Photoshop. If you have anymore questions you want answered, submit them on the “Submit a Question” page and I’ll be happy to help post an answer for you. All likes and shares are appreciated to help other users find the answers to their questions
